Canon Pixma iP100 Review
Canon Pixma iP100 Drivers, Software, Manual Settings – Canon continues the line of success with the successful Pixma portable inkjet printer iP100, an upgrade from iP90v last year. This time, Canon increased the number of ink nozzles and doubled the maximum resolution to 4,800×1,200 dpi colors. As the outcome, we have seen significant improvements in print speed and quality that make the portable iP100 competitive even with some full-size printers.
For $ 250, you won’t get bells and whistles from Hewlett-Packard’s mobile counterparts like multimedia card readers or optional Wi-Fi connectivity. Even so, we prefer this Canon because of its lower profile, fast print speed, improved cartridge range, and overall flexibility.
The iP100 is slightly larger and heavier than last year’s model, but still maintains a smaller profile than HP Officejet H470, its direct competitor. From a portability point of view, the iP100 is easy to transport, but it would be better if Canon included a carrying case to protect the unit in transit.
While iP100 keeps the same physical profile as its predecessor, the internal cartridge system has been completely repaired. First, iP100 increased the total number of nozzles from 1,088 to 1,856. Compare the 1,072 nozzles in the H470, and you will see why Canon is more than one full model in front of HP in this competitive space.
IP100 uses Canon’s latest ChromoLife color ink; each cartridge costs around $ 17 and is reportedly producing 249 pages. Like the previous iP90v and iP90, economic users can extend their cartridge life cycle using the driver’s two options: the Save Black Ink / Use Composite mode. Save Black Ink decrease the amount of black ink used in grayscale text and graphics, while the Use Composite mode generates pseudo-black from the remaining color spectrum after black ink runs out.
The engineers at Canon succeeded in increasing the print speed of the previous model by one ppm in all three of our format tests. IP100 prints text at an impressive 7.12 pages per minute speed, which not only stands tall on the HP H470 but prints the best print speed for all-in-one full-size printers and single functions available in retail stores now too.
On average, iP100 prints photos at 1.09 sheets per minute, which is acceptable but not spectacular. You can also increase the printing time in large images and graphic documents by manually changing how long the printer waits for the previous page to dry.
From looking at the picture from a qualitative point of view, the iP100 print sample seems equivalent, if not slightly better than iP90v. We detect almost no spots on portrait and landscape photos – the prints themselves are very natural with accurate and precise color palettes. Our text documents come out without jagged edges on generic 20-pound copy paper and high-quality glossy sheets.
The current model also completes a little blue cast on the grayscale portion of our test subjects that we report with its predecessor. However, there are some negatives. Some photos we printed on Canon’s Glossy II Photo Paper Plus produced a slightly cloudy hue that was visible; the effect is not always pleasant, just a little more cooling than we see from other printers.
We can also see the pale transition in our color gradient. But overall, we are delighted with the output quality of this device as a versatile printer designed for fast photos, documents, and printed presentations while on the go.
