Epson WorkForce 60 inkjet Review
Design
Lifting Workforce 60 to our work table is very easy; the unit weighs almost 10 pounds. That’s because there is virtually nothing to it – making it simple in some respects, and lacking in others. The matte-black plastic covering most of the unit looks ho-hum, but the construction is solid. The control panel has a light gray button that looks cheap and has no display. You will not find a media card slot or USB / PictBridge port.
The paper handling feature is the best. An automatic duplexer is on the board, as well as a 250-sheet paper input tray with a 50-sheet output deck directly above it. Our only hope is that Epson will enlighten the logic of duplexing so that the blank sheets on the back (usually the last layer) are not pulled back for useless print cycles.
You can connect WorkForce 60 via USB, ethernet, or Wi-Fi. Because it doesn’t have a display attached, you have to connect the printer via USB for a while to set up wireless, but it’s an easy task just once. The software installation works well on our internal network, and the Easy Photo Print software that included for formatting and printing images is just that – easy. The printer driver has all the options you can ask for, including Fast Economy (concept) mode and slightly better quality Economy mode.
Testing
WorkForce 60 is one of the fastest inkjet printers we tested – at least the default settings on plain paper. Monochrome pages, mostly plain text, come out of the printer at high speed of 12.9 pages per minute on a PC and 9.8 ppm on a Mac. On a PC, photos the size of photos on plain paper in letter size are printed in 13 seconds or zippy 4.6 ppm. However, once you switch to Epson’s photo paper and smoother settings, the printer slows down significantly, to 0.86 ppm or 69 seconds for the same photo, and more than 2.5 minutes (0.4 ppm) for one Full page, high-resolution photos print on Mac.

The print quality at default settings on plain paper is not as good as this. The black text sample looks dark but is slightly soft on the edges. The color graphics look rather rough, pale, and pink. On Epson’s glossy photo paper, the image looks smooth and natural – a significant improvement.
Cost Efficiency
Ink costs for WorkForce 60 are average or cheaper for inkjet. There is no standard size cartridge. High capacity cartridges, including black, are $ 18.04, 385 pages (4.7 cents per page). All the color costs $ 15.19 & lasts 470 pages, or about 3.2 cents per color, per page. A four-color page will cost 14.4 cents. Inventories with extra high yields include $ 28.49, 945 black pages (3 cents per page), plus $ 18.04, 755 color pages (2.4 cents per color, per page), making a four-color page only 10.2 cents. All costs based on industry standards, which are suitable for comparison purposes; however, your mileage will differ depending on what you print & how much you write.
WorkForce 60 should come with printed user guides, but unfortunately, it’s missing from our review unit. Our only choice is to see the same documentation online, but it can’t be downloaded, and if you don’t have an internet connection, you’re out of luck. Loading the PDF version on the installation CD will be a much more comfortable alternative. That said, using a printer is so easy that printed “Start Here” guides must be adequate. The HTML interface conveys printer status.
For small office users who only want to print, Epson’s WorkForce 60 does it fast and reasonably well, and ink costs more than enough with extra high capacity cartridges. If you don’t need ethernet and Wi-Fi, the Canon Pixma iP4820 is worth considering, even though the ink is more expensive than low prices.

The Bad
- No on-board card slots or display
The Good
- Affordable inks
- USB, ethernet, and Wi-Fi connectivity
- Automatic duplexing
Conclusion
Although WorkForce 60 offers the speed, features, and inexpensive ink that small offices need, the print quality is a little lacking.
